The Balearic Islands in the center of this beautiful map consisting of Menorca, Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera. North of the islands is the coast of Spain. It stretches from Barcelona, ​​ Costa Dorada, Costa del Azahar and as far as Denia, north west of Valencia. The Balearic islands are bypassed by a ship sailing under the Dutch flag and two galleons. Underneath is a beautiful scroll work cartouche with mileage scale. The two arms in the upper corners stand for the Spanish Empire and the Balearic slands. Willam Blaeu (1571-1638) was one of the most renown dutch map makers in history. Based in Amsterdam, his business also produced globes, cartographic instruments and sea charts. He was later appointed cartographer to the Dutch East India Company (VOC). His work was continued by his sons Joan and Cornelis Blaeu. Im Zentrum dieser schönen Karte sind die Balearischen Inseln abgebildet, bestehend aus Menorca, Mallorca und den Pityusen Formentera und Ibiza. Detailliert sind Bäume, Berge und die wichtigsten Küstenstädte eingezeichnet und jede der Inseln ist in unterschiedlicher Farbgebung hervorgehoben. Das Binnenland ist kartographisch nicht erschlossen. Nördlich der Inseln ist die Küste Spaniens erkennbar. Sie erstreckt sich von Barcelona, die Costa Dorada und die Costa del Azahar entlang, bis nach Denia. Nordwestlich von Valencia befinden sich die Islas Columbretes, die ihren Namen auf Grund zahlreicher Schlangen, auf Spanisch „culebra“, erhielten. Passend zur Namensgebung der Inseln ist der Golf von Valencia an dieser Stelle mit Seeungeheuern verziert.Im Süden werden die Balearischen Inseln von einem Segelschiff unter niederländischer Flagge und von zwei Galeassen umfahren. Darunter befindet sich eine herrliche Rollwerkkartusche mit Meilenzeiger und Armillarsphäre. Ein Banner nennt den Titel der Kartusche. Die beiden Wappen in den oberen Ecken stehen für das Spanische Königreich, sowie die Balearen. Zwei genordete Kompassrosen bilden die Ausgangspunkte für die Navigationslinien.
