France in detail with pre-revolutionary provinces. At the bottom left is a very detailed title cartouche including the royal crest of France with the three golden "Fleurs de lys" and a classical river god. The Ile-de-France region has been historically considered the heartland of France and has been almost continuously a royal domain. There is a impressive amount of detail in the major cities. Paris is listed in the title cartouche as the Gouvernement Generale, the administrative unit of the central government. Frederik de Wit (1616-1698) founded his own company in 1648. The family issued a large number of atlases, under different names including a See atlas. In 1706 the company was continued by P. Mortier. Sehr detaillierte Karte der Île de France. Die Grenzen der Territorien sind farbig unterlegt. Unten links eine sehr schön verzierte Titelkartusche im barocken Stil. Diese wird gerahmt von Putti, einem königlichen Wappen mit den drei goldenen "Fleurs de lys" und einem Flussgott. Rechts unten ein Meilenzeiger mit Legende.Die Île-de-France ist historisch gesehen das Kernland Frankreichs. Es war beinahe durchgängig die domaine royal. Bis 1791 zur Bildung der Départements war die Île eine der historischen Provinzen Frankreichs. Beeindruckend ist die detaillierte Darstellung der größeren Städte. So läßt sich an der Stadt Paris bereits der Bebauungszustand erkennen. Das in der Titelkartusche bezeichnete Gouvernement Génerale bezeichnet eine Verwaltungseinheit der Zentralregierung, unter Aufsicht eines Gouverneurs. Ein Gouvernement umfasste meist mehrere Provinzen.
