Salzburg in detail with the Salzach river and with excellent highlighted road network. The map was based on a drawing by Joris Hoefnagel and published in Part III of the "Orbis Terrarum Civitates", a large city atlas edited by Georg Braun and predominantly engraved by Franz Hogenberg. Left and right are two large cartouches with title cards and information about buildings and locations. In the foreground, is a classic example of brown-Hogenberg costumes in period dress. Maps by Braun and Hogenberg are collectors' items. The views are of particular interest for posterity, because they highlight an important point in the development of a city's history. The cities here are primarily from the medieval period and are still dominated by the building of fortresses, before the devastation of the Thirty Years War. Many of Hogenberg's views seem at first glance inaccurate, but provide insights into the city, which would otherwise remain hidden. Houses, churches, fortifications and ships and their characteristic are clearly shown. George Braun (1541-1622) is best known for the six volume "Orbis Terrarum Civitates". This was published in Latin, French and German. Franz Hogenburg (1538-1590) worked also with Abraham Ortelius in making the first ever published Atlas, and then with George Braun. Braun – Hogenbergs Ansicht von Salzburg ist ein hervorragendes Beispiel für eine Ansicht mit hervorgehobenem Straßennetz und detaillierter Flussansicht. Gezeigt wird der Blick vom Kapuzinerberg über die Salzach auf Burg und Stadt. Die Ansicht wurde nach einer Zeichnung von Joris Hoefnagel graviert. Das Blatt stammt aus Teil III des „Civitates Orbis Terrarum“. Bemerkenswert ist der Ausblick ins Hinterland. Umliegende Berge und Ortschaften sind verzeichnet, wenngleich zumeist schematisch dargestellt. Links und rechts zwei große Kartuschen mit tektonischer Einfassung, an denen zu erkennen ist, daß Hogenberg lange Zeit für Ortelius gestochen hat. Die rechte Kartusche mit Kartentitel und die linke mit Angaben zu Gebäuden und Plätzen. Im Vordergrund die bei Braun-Hogenberg üblichen Kostüme im lokalen Kolorit.
