English | A relatively rare map of Russia, Finland and Poland. The map has a remarkable number of forested regions. While no compass rose is present the map is northerly orientated and a grid system is present on the border. Pierre Duval (1618-1683) was a renown French cartographer of the late 17th century. Duval compiled several atlases and published a large and varied number of maps and town plans. Reference Rodney W Shirley, The Mapping of the World, Holland Press Limited, 1984, p406 |
