ORIGINAL

Poland in this detailed and accurate map extending from Poznan to Kiev and from Riga to Chernovtsy. It is a prime example which illustrates the shift in cartography in the 19th Century. Previous maps of the region have a far more decorations and illustrations and far less accurate cartographic accuracy. In the accurate detail, cities, rivers and major roads are marked in color. Areas of elevation and ridges are marked by hatching. At the bottom right is the key and a simple title cartouche is on the left hand side. Below lists the company Artaria & Co of Vienna and the year 1831. The words 'property of the publisher' reflects a improvement of copyright laws. Artaria & Co. was a publisher based in Vienna. It was run by the Italian cousins Carlo and Francesco, Giovanni Cappi and their partners. They produced maps of the city of Vienna, Hungary, Bohemia and Venice, as well as the "General Post and road map of the Duchy of Styria" (1841) and scientific work for teaching purposes. After close cooperation with Scheda Steinhauser the operation was merged in 1920 with Freytag & Berndt Freytag-Berndt & Artaria.

ORIGINALKARTE
