A attractive and visually apealling map of the East Coast of North America. It extends from the very north easterly most point of the modern day United States to Chesapeake bay in the south. Under the decorative title cartouche at the bottom center is a illustration of New Amsterdam, modern day New York. Importantly, this was one of the first images of the city, later editions would include an updated image showing the growth of this town. A small alphabetical key underneath shows points of interest in the city. Sand banks, rhumb lines and both European and Indigenous vessels are present in the sea. Illustrations of a indigenous village and wildlife are present inland. This map was originally published in 1655. Nicolaes Visscher I (1618-1679) continued the work of his father.
