English | The original version of a Ortelius' map depicting large parts of Asia from Theatrum Orbis Terrarum. Other regions of the world shown include Persia, China, Japan and parts of North America. Present as an ornament are two decorative cartouches. Ortelius based his Asia map on Gastaldis map from 1564. The upper right and lower left cartouches have text in Latin. Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) was one of the most important figures in cartographer in this period. He is best known for his 'Theatrum Orbis Terrarum' generally considered the first Atlas.
