The famous Champagne region center and extending from the river Aisne Rocroix in the north, to Compiegne, Sens and Meaux in the West. Auxerre, Langres, and Troyes in the south and Mense, Mouzon and Verdun in the east. In the upper left corner there are images of the city of Troyes and Reims mapped against a figurative title cartouche. Reims is called the main coronation city. In 816 the first coronation took place. Louis the Pious (also known for the Oaths of Strasbourg) was raised here by his father, Charles the Great. The city of Troyes in the Middle Ages was known for important trade fairs and had one of the first organized European money markets. The roads between major cities have been added at a later stage. The title cartouche of the top right is framed with mythological scenes. Particularly striking is the drawing of Faunus the Roman god of shepherds as an old, horned and crooked-nosed god modeled on the Greek god Pan. The female figure wears a crown and keys and is accompanied by the French-royal coat of arms, the three golden "Fleurs de lys". She is attended to by Bacchus the Roman god of wine accompanied by a vine and a wine barrel, typical products of the area. Johann Baptist Homann (1664-1724) was the cartograher of The Holy Roman Empire from 1715 and a member of the Prussian Royal Academy of Sciences. His work would be continued after his death by a company called The Homman Heirs. Reference Tooley's Dictionary of Mapmaker, Early World Press, 2004, p 361-362

ORIGINALKARTE
