ORIGINAL

St. Lawrence gulf, Terra Nova and Acadia with its careful depiction of the location of the major fishing grounds, is doubtless derived from French sources. Vincenzo Coronelli (1650-1718) was a cartographer and map maker, based in Venice. He had a doctorate in theology and was a Franciscan monk. He is reknown for making massive globes for king Louis XIV of France. Reference Tooley's Dictionary of Mapmaker, Early World Press, 2004, pp302-303
