Southern Spain surrounded by 12 views of fortified cities and from Gibraltar. The bottom right corner of the main map has a cartouche with four coats of arms. The top left emblem stands for Andalusia, the pomegranate represents the Kingdom of Granada. The third shows a stately crown emblem on a red background. A total of six gold lilies adorn the fourth coat of arms representing the Mediterranean region of Murcia. In the ocean is a reference to the battle at Malaga on 24 August 1704, part of the Spanish Succession War. This was a conflict involving several European powers over the potential unification of Spain and France under one ruler. In early August, Gibraltar was captured by the British. To reconquer the fortress troops rushed back from France, however the attack failed. The detailed map at the bottom shows a perspective of the fortress of Gibraltar. The map is labeled in French and Northerly orientated. Daniel de la Feuille (1640-1709) moved to Amsterdam in 1683 a where he worked as an engraver, art dealer, bookseller and map maker.
