An exceptional map of Gaul in the modern day France between London, Corsica, The Rhine, and the Atlantic. In ancient terminology, the map includes the areas Narbonese, Aquitania, Belgica and Lugdunensis. Various sea monsters and ships enliven the waters and the mountains are depicted in a stylized manner. Interestingly a separate title cartouche is not present and the title spans the entire width at the top card. The labels on the map vary between Latin, French and Italian. A large striking scrollwork cartouche is at the top right. A long text in Latin provides information about Marc Anthony from the classical Roman Empire and an ancient history of Gaul. Paolo Forlani (fl. 1560-1571) was an engraver and publisher in Verona and Venice. Here was at the center of Rome and involved in the production and printing of Italian art in the 16th and 17th Century. In addition to Forlani, other Venetian artists such as Coronelli Camocio made an impression with their technical style elegance, and the exact lettering of maps. Außergewöhnliche Karte von Gallien in seiner Ausdehnung zwischen London, Korsika, Rhein, Atlantik und den Pyrrhenäen. In antiken Begriffen umfasst die Karte die Bereiche Gallia Narbonensis, Aquitania, Lugdunensis und Belgica. Obwohl die Darstellung relativ genau ist, so stellen sich die Küstenlinien zu zerklüftet dar. Vor allem die Atlantikküste ist fehlerhaft. Die Landmasse ist umgeben von Mittelmeer, Atlantik und Nordsee. In allen Meeren fahren Schiffe unterschiedlicher Typen. Verschiedene Seemonster beleben die Gewässer. Gebirge sind stilisiert dargestellt. Flussläufe sind einigermaßen genau. Eine eigene Titelkartusche fehlt. Der Titel erstreckt sich über die gesamte Kartenbreite am oberen Rand. Die Beschriftungen der Karte variieren zwischen Latein, Französisch und Italienisch. Die Karte ist genordet, ohne Windrose.Besonders auffällig ist die große Rollwerkkartusche oben rechts. Neben einer Datierung, der Autorennennung, sowie der Lokalisierung enthält die Kartusche einen langen lateinischen Informationstext über Marc Anton und die antike Geschichte Galliens. Marc Anton lebte zwischen 83 bis 31 v. Chr. Unter Julius Caesar hatte er in Gallien gedient und unterstützte ihn zu Beginn des Bürgerkrieges 49 v. Chr, er war gemeinsam mit Caesar 44 v. Chr. Konsul und schlug die Caesarmörder in der Schlacht bei Phillippi. Im sogenannten zweiten Triumvirat erhielt er den östlichen Teil des Reiches, wo er 31 v. Chr. bei der Schlacht von Actium fiel.
