An attractive chart showing the southern half of South America. Hendrik Doncker (1625/26-1699) frequent correction and updating of his charts contributed to his commercial success. He was one of the most prolific publishers of nautical charts, atlases and navigation books in the late 17th Century. His major works include the 1659 Atlas, entitled "De Zee Atlas ofte Water-Waerld" which was followed by several editions. Unfortunately, none of the first editions have survived. In 1676 Doncker began to publish his large-format atlas "De Nieuwe Groote vermeerderde Zeeatlas". In addition, he cooperated with the publication of "Zeespiegels" by Pieter Goos. After his death, his son Hendrick Doncker II (1664-1739) continued the family business.
