A triple map of Spain and Baia de Cadiz in the center, the Targus river on the left and San Sebastian on the right right. The Bay of Cadiz is historically significant for the role it played in Christopher Columbus voyages of discovery in the Americas. Two ships of this period are shown in the seas of this map and two smaller aquatic themed vignettes are on the left and right. Each map has its own mileage scale at the bottom. The scales for these maps are 'Carpetaniae' 1:250,000 'Guipuscoae' 1:300,00 and 'Cadiz' 1:100,000. A wonder example of Ortelius' classic cartography. Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) was one of the most important figures in cartographer in this period. He is best known for his 'Theatrum Orbis Terrarum' generally considered the first Atlas.
