Scandinavia, Iceland, Greenland and the northern part of America, including the legendary island Drogeo, Fris country and Icaria. This attracive map shows evidence of the influence of the early masters of cartography such as Mercator's world map of 1569, the North Zeno map from 1558 and Olaus Magnus map of the northern regions and the Carta Marina in 1539. There are particularly splendid decorations in the oceans. Below right, the title cartouche is accompanied by other mythological creature, half man and half beast. Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) is one of the leading figures in the Dutch Golden Age of cartography. This is the French text edition of this map. Französische Textedition. Die Karte zeigt die Arktis, Skandinavien, Island, Grönland und den nördlichen Teil von Amerika, inklusive der legendären Inseln: Drogeo, Frisland und Icaria. Ortelius Karte zeigt den Einfluß der frühen Meister der Kartographie: Mercators Weltkarte von 1569, die Nordkarte von Zeno aus dem Jahre 1558 sowie Olaus Magnus Karte der nördlichen Regionen und der Carta Marina von 1539. Hier ist ein schöner Aufriß der skandinavischen Küste, des angrenzenden Mare conelatum und der gefrorenen Gewässer der Arktis zu sehen. Besonders prachtvoll sind die Verzierungen in den Meeren. Zu sehen sind Segelschiffe und ein Seemonster. Im Vordergrund ist ein Seemann mit Instrumenten platziert. Unten rechts die Titelkartusche wird begleitet von weiteren mythologischen Wesen, halb Mensch halb Tier.
